Welcome to Salsa in the Eastern Sierra! We will be offering Salsa classes that are open to all skill levels- beginners embraced, drop-ins are welcome. Bring a partner or come solo and we’ll partner-up! We will start with very basic movements which will be refined and polished with styling cues as we advance. Each class will have a review of prior skills and a portion of the class will be dedicated to progression and combinations as folks become more comfortable with the movement.
Salsa dancing is FUN, anyone can do it with the right tricks and tools. Your teacher is there to guide you into a hip-swiveling, smile-bringing… expression of mind, body and soul.
About your instructor:
Hallie Vickers moved to Bishop 25 years ago with a love for rock climbing and the mountains. Several years later she moved to Santa Barbara to pursue a nursing degree… it was in Santa Barbara that she immersed herself in Salsa dancing, ultimately dancing and performing with a local Latin dance company, Salsa Barbara. Upon returning to Bishop to settle down, she brought that love of Salsa home with her, teaching Salsa classes and fusion dance classes for many years prior to diving into family life and embracing a career as a RN Care Coordinator. She shares her journey with her handsome hubby, Simon and two fabulous boys, Shiloh and Lee. She’d love to hear from you if you have any questions 760-920-2063.

About Eva: Eva Poole-Gilson has published poetry, journalism, and stories internationally in over 20 journals and newspapers. In Jan. 2016, she was chosen to study with U.S. Poet-Laureate, Billy Collins, at the Kay West Literacy Workshop along with 11 other poets. Eva has written plays that have been performed at Mammoth Lakes Repertory Theater by Poetic Justice Project, she has been a guest writer for the California Writers Club, a poet-teacher for California Poets in the Schools, and has published books, Love Letter From a Poet to the High Sierra, Little Star Sleeping, Whiskered Wisdom available at local bookstores
Lunar New Year Tea and Chi with Betsy
Let’s gather to celebrate the Lunar New Year!
We will drink special Chinese Tea and learn some ways to meditate with tea. We’ll learn and practice some simple movements of Qigong, celebrating movement as medicine and good health. We’ll do some creative art work using the parallel verses for 2026 from Plum Village, in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. And… there will be surprise red envelopes to celebrate prosperity. Bring one little quote or poem to add to an envelope.
The Lunar New Year is known in many different countries, notably for us as Chinese New Year and Tet in Vietnam.

Making Reusable Bags from Old T-Shirts with Marijke
Gather your old t-shirts that are taking up too much space in your drawers! Whether they have a hole, a stain, or you just don’t wear them anymore, learn to upcycle your t-shirts into a reusable bag!
With just a pair of scissors and a shirt, you can create a bag to use again and again. In this class, everyone will start by making their bag base, which involves no sewing. Then, everyone will have time to personalize their bags further if they would like. There will be felt, sewing needles, and thread of many colors available. Basic sewing will be used to add the felt details.
Everyone is encouraged to bring an old t-shirt to use, but there will be some available to pick from.
Come to this class and learn a skill that keeps a shirt from the landfill, helps to limit the use of plastic bags, and becomes personalized, wearable art!
Ages 9+
Fairy Love Lantern workshop with Melanie

I SurREALLY Love You - Acrylic Painting Workshop with Marijke (CANCELLED)
Bring a loved one and celebrate your relationship through art! Grab your friend, significant other, child, grandchild, anyone you love to laugh and smile with! Come to this acrylic painting class and create some memories with this lighthearted, surrealism inspired project.
Each pair will join and receive two blank canvases to begin their evening. Then, each participant will choose their paint colors and begin their painting, but with a limited time frame. Once the timer goes off, the paintings will be switched! This will continue to happen until the artworks are complete.
These creations are meant to be goofy and not make much sense. This painting workshop is all about having a good time with someone you love.
Join us and when you sign up, you are signing up for two!
Get out of the house, spend an evening with someone you enjoy being with, and leave with two artworks to remember the evening by.

Phil Johnston, professional wildlife tracker, mountain lion researcher, and environmental scientist with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, brings his tracking expertise to the Eastern Sierra!
With years of experience interpreting the subtle signs animals leave behind, Phil has studied mountain lions, Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep, and many other species across California’s diverse landscapes. His work reveals how skilled observation and tracking can uncover the hidden lives of wildlife and deepen our understanding of the natural world.
Join us for an engaging evening as Phil shares stories from the field, lessons in the art and science of tracking, and insights into the connections between animals, landscapes, and the people who follow their trails.

Hand-Building Ceramics with Bart Godett - Sorry this class is Sold Out
In this workshop we will use basic hand-building ceramics techniques to build confidence in exploring clay and its properties. Participants will have the opportunity to make one or two (depending on complexity) fairly small pots, for example a mug or a bean pot or both. You will hand-build your creation and it will be glazed for you, creating a finished ceramic piece of your own design.
All materials and equipment needed will be provided, however if you have your own clay tools you are more than welcome to bring them. This class will focus on learning about clay properties, texture, and pot creation. Finished glazed pots will be available to collect from C5 Studios 2 weeks after the class, allowing time for the work to be fired and glazed.
The cost of this workshop is inclusive of a materials fee of $10 per participant to cover the cost of the specialist materials required.
This workshop is for ages 12+.
About the Instructor:
Bart is a ceramics artist and educator that lives in Big Pine. Bart is originally from Ridgecrest and has lived in the Owens Valley for 35 years. He has a studio at his house where he has worked on pottery from very large to quite small pots. His latests interest involve heavily textured clay typically in non- round forms experimenting in shape and functionality. He has enjoyed sharing his "odd" pottery style in workshops up and down the valley. I was drawn to ceramics at 19 my first semester in college. As he has moved from place to place, he has been able to enjoy expanding his ceramics education in Lancaster, Bakersfield, Lone Pine, Incline Village. At first it was all about throwing pots on a wheel, from tiny to large. Now he enjoys his creativity while camping in the wilderness. Nature inspires.

INYO 350 presents: Movie Night: Unbroken Ground and Game Hawker
INYO350 is thrilled to announce that world-renowned falconer and long-time Bishop resident Shawn Hayes will join us for the movie night on Tuesday, January 27. The featured film that evening will be Game Hawker, a 2022 Patagonia film about Shawn, and he will be available to speak briefly about his art and to answer your questions following the film.
The first film that night will be Unbroken Ground, which highlights regenerative agriculture and other practices that can minimize the harmful impacts of agriculture. Ziani Paiz, Rangleand Conservationist for Eastern Sierra Land Trust (ESLT), will share her perspectives on the film and talk about the upcoming Seed Swap, a collaborative effort among ESLT, UC Master Gardeners, and the Bishop-Paiute Tribe Food Sovereignty Program.
This movie night is free to all. Drinks and light refreshments will be available.

Basic Hand Embroidery Stitches with Marijke
Come to this class and learn 6 different hand embroidery stitches and end with a floral design displaying them all!
As a class, we will walk through the design step by step, learning different stitches as we progress. While the design is made to teach a selection of stitches, free styling is encouraged! Each participant will receive a 4” embroidery hoop, get to choose their backing material, and choose each thread color as the piece comes together.

Immerse yourself in the tactile, messy experience that is chalk pastels!
Chalk pastels give you rich and vibrant colors that smudge and move until you fix them into place.
As a class, we will cover a few chalk pastel techniques and explore how it blurs. Then, each participant will practice by drawing a focused study.
